URBAN VEGAN KITCHEN
OPENED9 DAYS AGO
A new cruelty-free, vegan restaurant has just opened in the West Village by the name of Urban Vegan Kitchen. The new spot is owned by the same owners as Blossom du Jour (the city’s largest vegan chain) and is one of their first, slightly more grown-up offerings in Manhattan. The new opening joins this area’s current vegan pioneer, By CHLOE. which sits just around the corner as well it’s newly opened vegan dessert store, Sweets By CHLOE. so there will no doubt be some healthy competition between these two new openings in the West Village. Urban Vegan Kitchen is part restaurant, part lounge and offers a relaxed and stylish environment to enjoy some animal-friendly fare.
Similar to its other locations, Urban Vegan Kitchen‘s menu is focused around vegan twists on traditional meat-centric dishes. Inventive twists include dishes like a UVK quarter pounder (made with a mushroom and barley patty and all the trimmings), chick-un & waffles (made using fried seitan) and lasagna (with sunflower tofu ricotta). Other classic favorites include a twist on mac & cheese (made using cashew cheese in place of regular) and chickpea hush puppies. This is serious comfort vegan food so bring your appetites!
The cafe upstairs is drenched in sunlight, creating an airy and atmospheric space. Meanwhile, downstairs is a subterranean restaurant and bar that also doubles as an event space where customers can come to listen to soul music whilst drinking cocktails and snacking on tasty vegan fare. Now go find that vegan friend to impress and take them here.
